A retail rollout is the serial planning and delivery of new stores or remodels to a uniform standard across several locations and years. The goal is a recognisable brand presence at predictable cost and on schedule. Typical triggers for a store rollout are new store concepts, expansion or a refresh of the existing network.
Standard and site
The standard defines furniture, materials, lighting and details. Each store, however, comes with its own conditions: building permit, fire safety, existing fabric and lease. A rollout is therefore always a balance between a serial concept and site-specific adaptation of the tenant fit-out.
Management
Rollouts are managed through schedules, project overviews and uniform tenders. The higher the degree of standardisation, the easier it is to compare costs and exchange components between locations.
Rollout and reuse
Standardisation is the prerequisite for the reuse of store fixtures: only what matches in dimensions and system can be used in another store. Planning reversible connections (Design for Disassembly) during the rollout lays the foundation for later strip-out and Restwertrückführung across the entire store portfolio.
